DILI: Timor-Leste, Australia and Osaka Gas have made “meaningful progress” toward reaching a final development agreement on the stalled Sunrise natural liquified gas project in the Timor Sea, Australia’s Woodside Energy said in a joint statement on Friday.

Woodside did not provide details on the arrangements for the production sharing contract at Greater Sunrise gas and condensate fields.

But it said it followed constructive discussions between the four partners in Dili last week.

“All parties reaffirm their commitment to developing a mutually beneficial and commercially viable Greater Sunrise project as soon as feasibly possible, consistent with the MBT (Maritime Boundary Treaty),” Woodside Energy said.

According to a joint statement, Timor-Leste’s petroleum regulatory authority and other government representatives met with representatives from the Australian government in Dili last week, along with representatives from the joint venture to progress the talks on the petroleum mining code, the production sharing contract, and the fiscal (tax) arrangements.

This round of negotiations is the latest in a series of meetings to agree the key governance documents that will set out the regulatory and legal frameworks to support the development of the Greater Sunrise gas and condensate fields, the statement said.

“During this round of negotiations, the Sunrise Joint Venture provided an update on the Concept Study being undertaken by Woodside PLC on behalf of the Sunrise Joint Venture. All parties are looking forward to seeing the results of the study by no later than the fourth quarter of this year,” the statement said.

The Greater Sunrise Joint Venture includes majority owner Timor Ga)p (56.56%, operator Woodside Energy (33.44%) and the Australian arm of Osaka Gas (10%).
