DILI: Members of the Government have declared their personal wealth before the High Court, as part of the government’s efforts to make public servant’s salaries and benefits transparent.

Under Timor-Leste law members of the government are obliged to declare personal wealth within 60 days of being sworn in to office.

The announcement comes as the Fretilin Party recently raised questions about the “rich” lifestyle of some National Development Agency (AND) employees, urging an investigation into their salaries.

Jose Mota, from the Fretilin party, used question time in National Parliament on Friday to ask how some ADN could afford “houses with swimming pools” on public servant wages.

"The ADN staff were recruited not so long ago and suddenly they have become rich,” he said.
