On June 22 Lu Olo rejected almost a dozen ministerial nominations because of their involvement in corruption investigations.
Dionisio Soares, spokesman for CNRT, said Lu Olo - who is also the President of opposition party Fretilin - was “no longer the President for all people.”
"We demand the members of parliament to impeach the President because he has taken sides,” Soares told reporters on Tuesday.
Soares said the nominated members were “presumed innocent” and that Lu Olo had “no place” to stand as judge.
He said CNRT would give the President a ten-day ultimatum to appoint the outstanding nine nominated members of government.
CNRT also called for its coalition government partners, Khunto and People’s Liberation Party, to support its impeachment call.
Deputy Fretilin Chairman, Francisco Miranda, dismissed the threat, saying there was “no legal basis” behind the impeachment call.
The nominated members include Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Helder Lopes,Tomás do Rosário Cabral, Vergilho Smith, Jacinto Rigoberto Gomes de Deus, Sérgio Gama da C. Lobo, Amândio de Sá Benevides, José Manuel Soares Turquel de Jesus and António Verdial de Sousa.
