DILI:  Some medical staff at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) in Dili allegedly abandoned their work during working hours to take up new positions at a private clinic leaving the hospital short-staffed.

According to Marcelino Correia, the director of HNGV, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) is investigating if the medical staff are in breach of contract.

Correia himself said the hospital was not aware the staff had left and was working with the CSC’s investigation.

It is not clear how many medical staff left HNGV or why they chose to do so.

Timor-Leste’s Civil Service Commission law was introduced earlier this year on 20 January  2022.

At the time, the commission’s purpose was to provide an intervention that could assist “efficient functioning of the civil service.”
