Timor-Leste Appoints New Members of Top Judicial Council Featured

DILI:Timor-Leste’s Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Roberto da Costa Pacheco as member of the Government in the Superior Council of the Judiciary for a term of four years.

The ministers who made the decision took the vote at the council of ministers meeting on Wednesday.

Pacheco was put forward for the position by the Minister of Justice Tiago Amaral Sarmento.

Under the new resolution, the Honourable Amélia Tilman has also been appointed as an alternate in the functions of a member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary.

The Superior Council is responsible for managing and disciplining the activity of judicial magistrates and managing judges in Timor-Leste. 

The Superior Council of the Judiciary is chaired by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice and is composed of four members, one of whom is appointed by the Government.
