More Funding Promised for Timor-Leste to Boost Flood Damage Relief Efforts Featured

DILI: The Japanese government has announced more money to help Timor-Leste rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by flood water that swept across the country earlier this year.

Japan said in a statement that it would provide US$7,400,000 in infrastructure assistance to Timor-Leste through the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation.

Heavy rains across Timor-Leste from 29 March to 28 April resulted in flash floods and landslides affecting all 13 municipalities in Timor-Leste, with the capital Dili and the surrounding low-lying areas the worst affected.

A total of 41 fatalities were reported.

According to official data, some 31,337 households were inundated with flood water and 2,163 hectares of agricultural areas were affected by the flooding which will impact food supply.
