Timor-Leste’s former Finance Minister and dual Australian citizen Emilia Pires is fighting to have her name cleared over charges she corruptly awarded a $1 million contract to her husband's company in Melbourne, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) published Friday.
DILI: Emilia Pires has continued to defend her refusal to return to Timor-Leste to face her seven-year prison sentence, honing in onthe Portuguese language capacity of the Dili District Court’s judgesas a key reason for her not taking their verdict as fair.
DILI: Emilia Pires had been send the opening letter to the state of Timor Leste and questioned the ability of Presecutors in utilizing the Portuguese language in the court, but Dili District Court told that this matter is not reasonable.
