However Asanami said there were clear risks of political instability if the focus remained on questions about government reshuffles rather than policy and getting on with leading the country.
Speaking at the Independence day celebrations at Presidential palace in Dili on Monday, Asanami said his party’s priority was a “strong government”.
"AMP is currently running the government and they are the ones who are fully responsible for this government, but if in the near future AMP wants to invite PD to join the government then we are ready to join because PD wants to serve this nation and country tirelessly," Asanami said.
He added that until now there had been “no official” approach from the coalition government and the Democratic Party “did not expect” one.
The Democratic Party picked up five seats in last May’s parliamentary vote.
At the time, Asanami said the Democratic Party was ready cooperate with the new eight government, prioritising prosperity and the development of Timor-Leste.
