DILI: Timor-Leste’s Integrated Crisis Management Centre (CIGC) said on Friday it would investigate why hand sanitizer stations in Dili were often empty, in a bid to ensure people can wash hands when out in public to protect themselves against the coronavirus.

Washing hands regularly and thoroughly as well as maintaining social distancing practices of one metre and wearing a mask in public are key behaviour recommendations for avoiding virus spread, according to the World Health Organisation.

The CIGC’s actions comes as the health body seeks to encourage people to remain vigilant, to continue the slow-down of infection rates.

As of Thursday, Timor-Leste has gone two weeks without reporting a single new case of COVID-19 infection, CIGC’s spokesperson Dr Odete Viegas said.

A total of 127 people are in compulsory confinement and 42 people are in self-quarantine across the country.

Some 2059 citizens have completed mandatory 14-day quarantine sessions.
