Dili: The Alliance for Change and Progress (AMP) government has secured USD$1.2 million to construct a heavy duty road from Dili to Tibar, a transport link it says is critical to improving the flow of goods in and out of the county.

The road will connect with the proposed Tibar port set to be built by 2021.

To secure the funds the government has said it will fast track the road’s completion to 2019 to coincide with the start of new port build enabling transport of heavy-duty construction material for the port.

Salvador Soares, the Minister for Public Works, said the government would meet with road construction companies to implement a feasibility study for the road.

Soares said the road was needed to meet the “basic construction needs” of the Tibar port.

He said the new road would start at Comoro.
