DILI: Julio Hornai’s four-year mandate as Police Commissioner for the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) will expire on 27 March, with a replacement yet to be announced.

Filomeno Paixao de Jesus, the Minister of Defense and Interior, made the announcement at the Ministry of Finance on Monday. The expiration of Hornai’s mandate comes at the same time as his Deputy Faustino da Costa mandate also ends.

Asked about Hornai and Costa’s successors, Paixoa said PNTL advisors were still discussing candidates, but that there were many officers in PNTL capable of fulfilling positions.

He said replacement nominations would be announced following approval at the Council of Minister’s meeting.
