DILI: A senior member of the out-going Fretilin government has labeled the continuation of separate party factions in the Change for Progress Alliance (AMP) coalition government as “illegal.”

Parliamentarians from the individual party’s that make-up Timor-Leste’s new government, Khunto, People’s Liberation Party and National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) will reportedly perform three factions in national parliament.

"In the early election people did not vote for CNRT, PLP and KHUNTO but chose AMP, '' said Antonino Bianco in National Parliament on Wednesday.

Bianco said the division of AMP into three parties was a violation of constitutional law article 70.

Carmelita Monis, a Minister from CNRT, said the National Electoral Commission (CNE) as well as the country’s high court had approved the separate factions.

“We will form a faction for each party in accordance with Article 11 regimens in the National Parliament,” Monis said.
