The move is part of plan by CEO Brian Tran Van Bangn aimed at improving internet access in Asia – Timor-Leste a country saddled with slow and poor network coverage.
In a statement on its website, Telemor said subscribers “will be able to seamlessly experience video applications and voice communications whether from ultra-connected urban areas or remote villages.”
The CEO did not mention any timelines for the business expansion.
Timor-Leste’s development agents have long discussed need for inclusive digital transformation.
With an average download speed of 5.3 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Timor-Leste ranks 174th in an international comparison, according to telecom data.
Currently, Telemor is the biggest mobile operator in Timor-Leste with more than 420,000 subscribers, accounting for approximately 45% market share. Some 51% of people in Timor-Leste have access to the internet.
