Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Singapore Alex Tilman has already discussed the proposal with potential recruiters in Singapore during a recent visit, he told the Independente on Monday.
The plan, proposed to potential recruiters in Singapore last week, would expand on Timor-Leste’s labour mobility programs in Australia and South Korea. The Singapore program, if implemented, is expected to provide more than 2000 work opportunities to Timorese citizens, said Tilman.
No detail about the work or salary were provided.
Many in civil society have said existing support for Timorese working in government labour programs overseas is insufficient and employees need more in-country help.
Successful applicants for the Singapore job program will be required to attend English classes prior to commencing work, Tilman said.
