DILI: Timor-Leste will provide “one-off support” for people facing extreme vulnerability, the Council of Ministers said in a statement on Friday, after Timor-Leste’s Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion Veronica das Dores outlined need for more economic support.

Some 27 per cent of Timorese, or 360,000 people, are estimated to be facing high levels of acute food insecurity, according to recent data from United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The Council of Ministers said the additional aid, which has not been previously reported, will support efforts to help “the most deprived people” to “temporarily meet their basic needs”, according to the statement. No further details were provided.
