DILI: Timor-Leste reported zero locally acquired cases of COVID-19 for the third day on Thursday as the country’s movement restrictions continue to ease after an outbreak that has seen about 6000 cases since August.

Dili, the country’s COVID-19 hotspot, reported four new locally acquired cases on Saturday, while active cases also remain in Bobonaro and Viquque.

Lospalos and Baucau reported no locally acquired cases again on Friday, while most districts outside capital Dili are also reporting no new cases.

Timor-Leste has fared much better than many other developing countries during the pandemic, with 19,785 COVID-19 cases and 122 deaths, mostly in Dili. Internal border controls and strong vaccine push have helped it contain prior outbreaks.

As of Sunday, over 49% of adults in Timor-Leste are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and 75% have received one dose.
