DILI: Timor-Leste has received 12,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine donated by Portugal, the government said on Monday, as the country’s bullish vaccine campaign continues to help reduce coronavirus spread.

After months of strict restrictions on movement and incentives to get vaccinated to combat a stubborn outbreak since late April, daily infections are starting to wane across Timor-Leste.
The health authorities reported on Monday 766 active cases nationwide.

This is the first batch of vaccines offered by Portugal, which has pledged to donate three million doses to Timor-Leste and African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP), the statement said.

So far Timor-Leste has received a total of 363,580 doses from AstraZeneca and 100,000 from Sinovac.
As of Monday, 250,644 people (33.2 % of the population over 18) received the first dose of the vaccine and 56,627 people (7,5 %) have already completed the vaccination.
