DILI:Timor-Leste’s newest political force, the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) has rejected the possibility of an early election, with its leader Taur Matan Ruak reaffirming Saturday that the party had no intention of forming a coalition government.

“There is no possibility, opposition is opposition,” Ruak told Lusa after a one-hour meeting with Fretilin’s leader Mari Alkatiri.

Ruak said it was up to Fretilin to form the executive government.

The announcement comes as Fretilin, the narrow winner of Timor-Leste’s 22 July parliamentary election, continues talks with smaller political parties to form a coalition government.

Fretilin failed to pick-up the needed 33-seat majority to govern independently.

Questioned about which rival party Ruak believed Fretilin would work with, the former President said: "We're four pretty girls, I do not know which one Mari will choose, but we're going to be in the opposition.”

PLP picked up eight seats in the national election, becoming the third most voted political force behind winner Fretilin and the National Congress of the Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT).

Alkatiri told the Independente his party would continue to discuss government platform this week, speaking further with youth party Khunto touted as being the next coalition partner.

At five seats, this is the first time Khunto, formed in 2011, has entered parliament.

Its founder, Jose dos Santos "Naimori" Bucar, was jailed for two years in 2004 following an alleged gang fight.

Naimori said Khunto was “ready” to join Fretilin. He said the party wanted “ensure the peace of Timor-Leste and a good life for its people.”

Equal access to education has been a strong policy for Khunto.

"Education must be accessed by all students not only by some people that have links or influence inside government,” Naimori told Sydney Morning Herald recently.

Most of Khunto's supporters are between 17 and 30 years old, whose main concerns are jobs and economic uncertainty.
