DILI:Marking 17 days since a new infection was identified in the country, Timor-Leste reported a continuation of recoveries on Sunday, with 22 COVID-19 patients now released from hospital.

So far, there have been a total of 24 infections and no deaths.

Dr Odete Viegas, spokesperson for the Integrated Crisis Management Centre’s (CIGC), has said people must not “discriminate” recovered patients, stressing they are no longer infected with the coronavirus and therefore not contagious.

She also encouraged people to maintain good hygiene and social distancing practices, putting the nation’s infection rate slow-down to people’s changed behaviour.

Some 151 people remain in 14-day quarantine in sites across Timor-Leste, with 2108 people completing quarantine.

Globally, more than 279,000 have died from COVID-19, while the number of confirmed infections has surpassed four million, according to John Hopkins University. More than 1.3 million people have recovered.
