DILI: An up-tick in people seeking medical help for dengue fever symptoms and use of mosquito nets is likely contributing to a decline in reported Dengue fever deaths and cases in Dili, health officials said on Wednesday.

A successful dengue prevention campaign that had health campaigner visiting family’s door-to-door in Dili is a likely contributor to the drop in dengue case numbers in 2023 compared to peak in 2022, said Dili Municipal Health Service’s director Augustina Segurada.

" The registered 17 dengue cases are from Formoza health centre, Comoro health centre and Becora heath centre as mainly those people from risky places,” Segurada said.

Since the beginning of January 2023, the Dili municipal health services reported just 17 people receiving treatment for dengue fever and no deaths.

In 2022, Timor-Leste reported more than 3,900 dengue cases and 34 deaths from dengue fever, according to official health data.
