“All of us are happy because we won but this wining is a little bit bitter because we just won most voted only, so we must call the other party in National Parliament and then to form the government,’’ Alkatiri said on Sunday.
The Fretilin party won a narrow 29.7 per cent of votes at the July 22 election, falling short of winning the 33 seats needed in the 65-seat parliament for it to rule alone.
To make up needed majority the party formed a coalition with Democratic Party (DP) and youth party KHUNTO, party’s that picked up respective ten per cent and 7 per cent of votes.
However as the process to appoint a President of National Parliament continues to draw out, Alkatiri acknowledged the party is torn between processes and appeasing a public that wants to know how its future government will look.
To expedite the process , Alkatiri called on members of the Committee Central of Fretilin (CCF) to put forward opinions on government modeling and their Prime Minister appointment.
The former Prime Minister continued to fend off questions about his own ambitions to return to the position despite strong rhetoric from within the party that Alkatiri would be appointed.
