DILI: Some 250 people benefitted from access to state health funds to fit evacuation and international hospital bills from January to July 2017.

Horacia Sarmento, the National Director of Health, said patients were evacuated from Timor-Leste to Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Among the recipients were 16 veterans.

Sarmento said 147 people received treatment in Indonesia, 73 people in Singapore and 30 people in Malaysia.

Of the patients, 100 have returned to Timor-Leste where they continue to receive treatment at the Guido Valadares National Hospital in Dili.

A combined budget of $2.17 million from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social and Solidarity is set aside to cover evacuation and international health bills.
